Cricketers turning to films is not a new phenomenon. Earlier we had cricketers like Ajay Jadeja and Salil Ankola who made a transition to films from the cricket field. Former fast bowlers, Javagal Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad are now all set to act in a Kannada movie Sachin which is based on none other than great cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar. The film is about an autistic boy who struggles to make it big in cricket. Sachin movie is being directed by Kannada film-maker Mohan Shankar and well-known multilingual actress Suhasini Maniratnam, wife of ace film-maker Mani Ratnam, plays a role of the autistic boy's mother.
The director wanted to show a real cricketers on the big screen as the film revolves around cricket.
While Prasad and Srinath readily agreed to be a part of the movie because it was not a typical commercial movie. In the film, Venkatesh Prasad plays as a cricket coach. on the other hand, Srinath has lesser screen space and appears only in second half of the movie. His role has been kept as secret.
Apparently, both the cricketers attended acting workshops. While Venkatesh Prasad had already
started shooting, Srinath's portion will be shot later this month. Master Snehith (who has acted in several children's Kannada movie) plays the role of the autistic kid who worships Sachin Tendulkar. The film's tagline, Tendulkar Alla, means "I am not Tendulkar", but dream to become as successful as him. The film-makers wanted Tendulkar to play a cameo in the movie, but they were aware that the cricketer would not want to appear on the big screen. They, however, plan to have a special screening for him.
